Assignments
Assignments for each chapter will include: Vocabulary, Chapter Overview, worksheet(s) on each section of the chapter, Key Terms, Note-taking Worksheet, and sometimes a written Test Review.
Every evening you should study the material covered in class that day. You ability to answer questions in class and how well you do on the Section Quizzes, the Chapter Review Quiz and the Chapter Test will verify whether you have done this.
Launch Labs, Activities, and Labs will be conducted whenever possible to reinforce understanding of concepts being presented.
For some activities, scores may be based on the effort to successfully perform the activity. For others, scores may be based on cleaning up and returning equipment to the proper area. Improper use of equipment may result in loss of all points for a given activity. Since some activities are demonstrations, scores will not always be taken.
Assignments are to be completed using blue or black ink and are not accepted late. Assignments are to be completed prior to coming into the classroom.
Assignment scores are recorded using the number of points earned out of the number of points possible.
Assignment scores will constitute 25% of the total grade for the grading period.
Quizzes
Quizzes may be given periodically that cover a specific topics or section of the chapter. A Chapter Review quiz that covers important terms for the chapter is usually given two days before the Chapter Test. This quiz includes, but is not limited to, the key terms listed at the beginning of each section. Definitions often vary from the glossary definitions, so understanding of the terms and their definitions rather than rote memorization is necessary. These quizzes do not always include a word bank and correct spelling of terms is required.
Quiz scores are recorded as percentages and will constitute 35% of the total grade for the grading period.
Tests
A test is given at the end of each chapter. These consist of multiple choice and matching questions. Study a few minutes each day. The night before a quiz or test, review with a sibling or parent.
Test scores are recorded as percentages and will constitute 40% of the total grade for the grading period.
Bonus Points
Bonus points are occasionally given for "special assignments." "Special assignments" usually involve internet research with MLA citations and a copy of the web page that was used as the source. There is no extra credit.
