Science Fair Project Selection
When searching for a Science Fair topic:
1. What is the question being asked?
2. Identify at least three things that can be researched on this topic to give adequate background information on which the hypothesis can be based.
3. Identify materials that will be needed. Make sure these items can be obtained.
4. Identify the independent variables the things that will be changed on purpose.
5. Identify the dependent variable what is being measured (time, distance, height, weight, mass, etc...).
6. Identify the units in which the independent variable will be measured (seconds, centimeters, grams, etc...)?
7. How long will the experiment take (hours, days, weeks)? Be sure to begin early enough to have time for conducting 5 or more trials or testing 10 or more test subjects.
8. How will Observations be recorded? Data tables and graphs will need to be set up. Will a daily log of observations be included? Will photographs to document stages of experimentation be taken?
Keep these things in mind as you make your project selection.
They will get you well on your way to a successful Science Fair!
